Human+AI Practice Pathway

Human Purpose, Character, and Curiosity

What should education deliberately cultivate when AI can produce increasingly sophisticated outputs?

Six connected Studios · Faculty, student-affairs educators, curriculum leaders, and mission or formation teams

Begin with the human purpose

Explore what learners should become more able to notice, question, practice, and contribute. Apply each Studio to the same learning experience, program, or statement of educational purpose.

Participants produce a human-development design statement and one learning experience that cultivates a chosen quality. AI is optional; its value depends on whether it supports the human development you intend.

Free foundation: From Prompting to Partnership is available before this pathway, but it is not one of the six required Studios. Facilitators may waive it when participants already demonstrate the foundational capabilities.

Who this pathway is designed for

Best fit

Faculty, student-affairs educators, curriculum leaders, and mission or formation teams working on the purpose of education and the conditions for human development.

Readiness fit: Integration moving toward Innovation.

Focus of the work

Choose this pathway when the primary question concerns the qualities education should cultivate. The unit of change may be a learning experience, program, or institutional statement of educational purpose.

The core emphasis is purpose, curiosity, character, wonder, and gift discovery.

How the cohort works

Shared application

Build one coherent design

Choose a context and a quality to cultivate. Use each Studio to refine the same project, from its educational purpose to the experience learners will encounter and the evidence you will notice.

The sequence moves through purpose, curiosity, wonder, character, responsible reflection with AI, and gift discovery. Connect these perspectives in a design statement and one learning experience.

Local facilitation

Make room for different perspectives

The institution identifies a primary facilitator to keep the cohort on schedule, host conversations, help participants compare interpretations, and support review of the final design.

Participants decide which reflections to share. Facilitators see completion progress; private Studio responses remain in participants’ browsers.

A sample eight-week schedule

Combine individual practice, cohort conversation, and development of a learning experience that cultivates a chosen human quality.

  1. Before launch

    Prepare the cohort

Confirm the facilitator, access arrangements, shared context, and any foundation needs.

  2. Week 1

What If AI Isn't the Problem?

Name the capacity learners should develop and the thinking they must practice themselves.

  3. Week 2

    The Curiosity Deficit

Make questions, reasoning, and revision visible in the learning experience.

  4. Week 3

    Unleashing Wonder

Create room for uncertainty and purposeful exploration.

  5. Week 4

    The Character Revolution

Define observable practice without grading a person’s moral worth.

  6. Week 5

    AI as Character Coach

Set limits, preserve agency, and design a return to human relationships.

  7. Week 6

    Education as Gift Discovery

Notice developing strengths and connect them to a meaningful contribution.

  8. Week 7

    Bring the design together

Synthesize the design statement, learning experience, and evidence of growth.

  9. Week 8

Review, refine, and plan a trial

Seek feedback, consider unintended effects, and decide what to learn from the first trial.

Estimated time: 75 minutes per week for Weeks 1–6. This includes approximately 45 minutes for the self-paced Studio and a 30-minute cohort conversation. These are provisional planning estimates. Allow additional time for project development and local consultation.

The six-session pathway

Put human development into practice

Prepare a human-development design statement and one learning experience that cultivates a chosen quality.

Review the quality of the design and its evidence, not the participant’s character, personality, or willingness to disclose private experiences.

  • Name the learners, context, and educational purpose.
  • Describe the chosen quality as observable practice.
  • Explain what remains human and whether AI has a useful role.
  • Include an accessible, meaningful route without AI.
  • Identify evidence of growth, learner voice, and possible unintended effects.
  • Specify the first trial and how feedback will inform revision.

Support your cohort’s practice

Combine the six Studios with a facilitated cohort and shared project. Individual Studios are also paid-subscriber article companions.
